"'The Road is Wider Than Long' was created by Roland Penrose in 1939 with his evocative free verse inscribed by hand on folded sheets of fine paper. That unique original was dedicated by Penrose to Lee Miller as a keepsake of their travels together through the Balkan States in the summer of 1938. To these pages adjoining the text were mounted small prints of photographs Penrose had made during their travels." A commercial edition was printed in 1939 in an edition of 510 copies.
